Bedroom Wall Art

Choosing wall art for the bedroom
Calm colours work best in a bedroom. Soft blues and greens feel restful to most people, while creams and sandy neutrals make the room light and airy. Strong contrasts and busy motifs are better kept for other rooms. Look at your bed linen, a throw or the curtains – picking up one of their colours in the art makes the bedroom feel finished.
Above the bed or opposite?
Above the bed is the classic place – the art frames the bed and gives the room a calm centre. If your headboard is high or the wall above it is short, consider the wall opposite the bed instead: then the art is the first thing you see when you wake up.
Which size above the bed?
Choose wall art that covers about two thirds of the bed's width and hang it centred above the bed. For a bed of 160–180 cm (63–71 in), a set of two works beautifully; above a king-size bed, a set of three. Hang the frames about 25–30 cm (10–12 in) above the headboard, so the art belongs to the bed instead of floating on the wall.
Motifs for a calm bedroom
Nature motifs suit most bedrooms – ferns, leaves, quiet seascapes and fish in soft tones. In a Japandi bedroom, my cloud landscapes in sage and beige bring a very peaceful atmosphere; in a light coastal bedroom, soft blue corals and fish.
