Entryway & Hallway Wall Art

The hallway is the first thing you and your guests see when you come home. Wall art above a console table or along a long hallway makes the entryway feel welcoming instead of empty. Drag the slider to see the same entryway empty and with my hand-painted watercolor wall art.

Choosing wall art for the hallway and entryway

Hallways are often narrow and get little daylight, so light backgrounds and calm motifs work best – they make the space feel wider. Pick up a colour you already have in the entryway: the wood of a console, a rug or the front door. If the hallway opens into the living room, choose art in the same palette so the rooms flow into each other.

Which size above a console table?

Wall art above a console should cover about two thirds of its width. Above a console of 120 cm (47 in), a set of two prints in 40 × 50 cm (16 × 20 in) works well; for a narrower console, 30 × 40 cm (12 × 16 in). Hang the frames about 20–25 cm (8–10 in) above the console top, with the centre of the art at roughly eye level – around 150 cm (60 in) from the floor.

Long and narrow hallways

In a long hallway, several sets of two along one wall create a calm rhythm – hang them at the same height and with equal gaps. In a narrow hallway you see the art from close up, so delicate botanical motifs with fine details are a lovely choice: you notice the brushwork every time you walk past.

Motifs for the entryway

Botanical motifs like ferns, branches and berries feel fresh and natural. My Japandi cloud landscapes bring calm to a minimalist entryway, and pine cones and wood slices suit a rustic, cabin-style home. You can find more pairs in my sets of 2.
