Choosing wall art for a nursery or kids' room
Children's rooms change quickly – from nursery to playroom to a room for a school child. I like to choose motifs that grow with the child: animals, sea creatures, the moon and gentle botanicals in soft colours look sweet in a nursery and still fit a few years later. Soft blues, sage greens and warm yellows feel calm; one stronger colour, like the pink of a flamingo, adds a little fun.
Safety first above the crib and bed
Above a crib or a child's bed, use light frames with acrylic glazing instead of glass and fix them securely to the wall with two hooks, so they cannot slip. If you prefer, hang the art on another wall, where your child can see it from the bed.
Which size?
Above a crib of about 120–130 cm (47–51 in), a set of two prints in 30 × 40 cm (12 × 16 in) works well. Above a toy bench or a dresser, a set of three; a set of four in a grid suits a free wall above a play table. In a playroom, hang the art a little lower than in other rooms, so children can see it at their eye level.
